About Jay

I live in Milk River, Alberta, Canada where I make knives in my basement. I made my first knife when I was 14 years old out of an old file. It wasn’t until 10 years ago, however, that I really became excited about knife making. Since taking a course from a local knife maker in 1995 I have made dozens of knives out of various materials. I enjoy working with stainless steel and Damascus, making fixed blades and folding knives. I use many different materials for handles ranging from imitation Ivory to stabilized Caragana wood. I love the creative aspect of designing and often wake up in the middle of the night with a new idea. I have also built my own heat-treating oven and enjoy building grinders and other various tools for making knives. I have sold a number of knives throughout the United States, The U.K., and Canada, and always find the process very rewarding. The knives are great but the camaraderie I have experienced and the friendships I have forged because of them are irreplaceable.
